The Value of Field Fortifications in Modern Warfare (1980)

This study was prepared for the Defense Nuclear Agency. The functions, performance, and effects of field fortifications in 14 combat operations in World War II and the Middle East are examined in detail. In addition, four variants of the defense of the US V Corps sector against Soviet attack are analyzed to determine the quantitative contribution of field fortifications in modern warfare. The Quantified Judgment Model is used to make the analysis.
